Faisal Hafeez is an independent Software Engineer & Systems Architect based in Pakistan. His work spans custom applications, software integrations, and connected business systems.
As a child, the motor inside a toy was often more interesting to me than the toy itself. I'd take things apart, connect the motor to a battery, and see what happened. Torches and other small gadgets became experiments too. Once, I adapted a battery-operated radio to use a rechargeable battery from an old mobile phone. Plenty of other experiments ended with broken toys and parts scattered across the table.
Computers gave that curiosity a new direction. I spent time installing operating systems, opening up computers, cleaning their components, and putting everything back together. I liked seeing what changed when I adjusted something and understanding why it worked.
By the time I had to choose a field of study, computers were already the obvious direction. I followed the computer science track during my pre-university studies, where an introduction to programming opened up another way to experiment. I later completed a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. Hardware still interested me, though software gradually became where I wanted to spend most of my time.
When curiosity became a profession
My early professional experience included working with established websites and applications. I became increasingly aware of the friction people encountered: slow responses, awkward processes, and ordinary tasks that took more steps than they should. Those experiences pushed me to explore modern web frameworks and different approaches to developing software.
What interested me increasingly was the wider process around an application. Where did the information come from? What happened after someone submitted a form or placed an order? Which steps were being repeated by hand? How did a change in one part affect everything connected to it?
Those questions drew me toward software architecture, integrations, and the way systems support real work. I wanted to understand the moving pieces and find practical ways to make them fit together.
The work today
After working in professional roles, I became interested in greater independence and the opportunity to work with people from different places and backgrounds. I enjoy the variety of problems that brings. Each new context offers something to learn, and often a different way to look at a familiar technical challenge.
Today, I work independently as a Software Engineer & Systems Architect, with interests spanning custom applications, connected systems, and the decisions that make software useful over time. I'm still drawn to new tools and frameworks, especially when they offer a promising way to improve something. Deciding whether that change is genuinely worthwhile is part of the work.
That habit of looking inside things has stayed with me. I still find satisfaction in understanding how the pieces fit together and making everyday technology work a little better for the people using it.
